Even with the best built kitchens with full backs there is always a possibility of mice getting in. I discovered this a couple years back. Little bugger – I actually do think they are cute but outside the house! – got into my Lazy Susan Cabinet – it squeezed between where the two doors were hinged together – they can squeeze through a dime size space.
- Keep it tidy. Don’t leave crumbs overnight on the counter, floor, etc.
- Bulk items in plastic bags – transfer to glass/plastic containers with lids – nothing more gross then finding mouse turd in stuff and having to throw $ in the garbage. Wish I had done that with the lazy susan cabinet from the beginning!
- Inspect for areas they might be coming in and try using steel wool stuffed into spaces (think where pipes come into the sink cabinet, etc.)
- Peppermint oil – mice apparently don’t like the scent. A couple of drops with 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar for cleaning (just don’t leave wet on wood/painted finishes)
- Bounce Sheets – original scent – they don’t like that scent either – so save those for cabinets that don’t contain food items.
